Once A Runner by John L. Parker, Jr.

Your mind is reeling for a run, despite the fact you've been competing since January; but your body needs a break. Here's a good read to keep your mind on the track while giving your muscles the recovery they need.

"The secret is this," says fictional distance runner Quenton Cassidy in the cult-classic novel, Once A Runner, "there is no secret." Cassidy repeats the phrase several times over the course of the book, whenever he's asked how he manages to run so fast. Alas, there is a secret—one that readers will discover for themselves as Cassidy prepares for his climactic mile race against the world-record holder. Succeeding as an elite distance runner, or anything else worthy of commitment, takes a great deal of hard work and dedication. Of course, readers are encouraged to draw comparisons within their own lives.
